Scott Stopak

Biography
Scott Stopak began working for the City of La Vista in June 1994 as the Recreation Coordinator and was appointed Recreation Director in April 1996.  

Scott has a bachelor’s degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies/Recreation Management from University of Nebraska at Lincoln. He began his career in Recreation Management with the Hastings Family YMCA in Hastings, Nebraska in 1990 as the Sport League Director.






Assistant Director

David Karlson

Biography
David began working for the City of La Vista in June 1996 as the Assistant Recreation Director.  David has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Community Recreation from the University of Northern Iowa.

He previously worked as Program Director for the city of Marshalltown, Iowa YMCA from 1988 to 1989. From there, he was Community Center Director for the Des Moines Parks & Recreation Dept. from 1989 to 1996. For 12 years David has directed the youth and adult sports recreation programs. As of 2008, he is working on special events and programs for the Recreation Department.

Program Coordinator
Ryan South

Ryan began his role as Program Coordinator for the City of La Vista in May 2011.  Previously, he was Pool Manager at the City of La Vista pool from May 2005 to August 2009.  Prior to Pool Manager, Ryan worked as a Recreation Supervisor at the La Vista Community Center from September 2005 to May 2007.

Ryan has a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. As Program Coordinator at the Recreation Department, Ryan is in charge of directing all youth & adult sport programs, as well as, coordinating facility schedules, recreation programs and special events.

Administrative Assistant
Sue Tangeman

Sue began working for the City of La Vista in September 1999 at the Recreation Dept.  Her duties include front office management, administrative support to the Recreation Dept., Senior Center and Senior Bus service, and facility rentals for the Community Center and City parks.

Sue has served on the Employee Focus Committee since 2005, the Employee Activities Committee from 2007 to 2012, and the I.T. Committee since its inception. In February 2008, Sue was awarded an Outstanding Service Award.  Prior to her employment with the City, Sue was a Sales Coordinator for Nebraska Tractor, then office manager at Culligan Water.
