Our Department
The Papillion Fire Department proudly protects 60,000 people living in an area of 68 square miles in the cities of La Vista, Papillion and the Papillion Rural Fire District. We operate out of 4 stations that protect both residential and light industrial areas. Located just south of Omaha, our department handles both fire and EMS calls.

Our department consists of 56 personnel, of which 51 are assigned to suppression. We have between 15 and 17 Firefighters on duty 24 hours per day/365 days per year and we guarantee Advanced Life Support on duty at all times.

Our department provides the following services:
  • Emergency Medical (Advanced Life Support)
  • Fire Suppression
  • Fire Prevention
  • Public Fire Safety Education
  • Confined Space Rescue
  • Surface Water/Ice Rescue
  • Rope Rescue
  • Trench Rescue
  • HazMat Operations Response
  • Extrication

In early 2011, after a thorough review by ISO, we are proud to say that our Public Protection Classification (PPC) went from a 4/9-10 to a 3/9. This improvement has resulted in substantial fire insurance premium savings for many of our residents.

After over 50 years of serving the citizens of La Vista, the La Vista Volunteer Fire Department handed over their operations to the Papillion Fire Department on April 1st, 2014. Papillion firefighters now staff their 2 stations 24 hours per day/365 days per year, just as they do with the 2 fire stations located in Papillion. Over 50 years ago our department was one of the founding members of a Mutual Aid System, which now consists of five counties and 27 agencies. This commitment to helping our neighboring departments for over 50 years will continue as we proudly get the opportunity to serve La Vista.
