|The La Vista Public Library was born out of a generous gift from a resident, Howard Hamilton, who wanted nothing more than for his city to have a library.
Hamilton approached the City Council in October 1971 and by the fall of 1972, the City of La Vista approved his donation of 4,000 books as well as $75,000 for the construction of La Vista's first library. Groundbreaking took place in September 1973 and it opened to the public in June 1974.
