Biography

BRENDA GUNN was appointed City Administrator for the City of La Vista, Nebraska in April 2006. She began working for the City in July 1997 as Assistant City Administrator and served as Interim City Administrator following the departure of Cara Pavlicek in November 2005.

Brenda has over 20 years of professional local government management experience, is a Credentialed Manager by the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) and a graduate of ICMA’s Senior Executive Institute at the University of Virginia. In 2005, she received the ICMA Assistant Excellence in Leadership Award.

She began her career in local government with the City of Concordia, Kansas in 1993 as the Director of Community Development and Assistant to the City Manager. Brenda received a Bachelor of Science in Social Sciences from Kansas State University in 1991 and Masters in Regional and Community Planning in 1993 also from KSU. In 2003 Brenda was recognized by Kansas State University’s College of Architecture, Planning and Design as one of five alumni honorees.

She is involved with community activities and served on numerous boards and committees.

Responsibilities

The City Administrator is the chief administrative officer of the city and is responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective implementation of City Council policies and priorities. All city departments are under the direction of the City Administrator and the Mayor and Council deal with all departments and employees through the City Administrator.

The office of the City Administrator is filled by appointment of the Mayor with the consent of the majority of the City Council.
