Around Town Passes and Other Cool Things You Can Borrow
Around Town Library Passes
With your library card you can check out a pass to visit a local museum or park! Below you can find more information about the passes we currently offer.
Passes are non-transferable. The person who borrows the pass with their library card must be the person who uses the pass.
Digital Passes
The Durham Museum, Fontenelle Forest, and Lauritzen Garden passes are all digital passes that can be borrowed at the below website. You may reserve the date you want to visit when you check out your pass.

Physical Paper Passes
The Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium passes are all paper passes that must be borrowed in-person at the library. Zoo passes are given out seasonally, and once they are gone they are out until the next session. Physical passes cannot be reserved over the phone. It's first come first served.
Durham Museum
La Vista Public Library and the Durham Museum have partnered to provide museum passes to library card holders. Each pass is good for one day. To borrow a museum pass your library card must be active and in good standing.
The library is in the process of getting a new online checkout system for passes. Until it is ready passes will need to be borrowed in-person at the library's circulation desk.
Passes are ineligible on select days throughout the year at the museum's discretion. These dates will be blocked off on the online event pass website. Once the maximum number of passes for a day are checked out those days will also be blocked off.
Usage Frequency: You may borrow a Durham Museum pass only once every 6 months.
The Durham Museum Pass...
- Is good for 2 adults and dependent children from the same household or up to four grandchildren. Children must be 21 years old or younger.
- Library passes are available for use by an individual library member family once every six months.
- A pass e-receipt will be used for entrance. If you do not have a smart phone you may visit the library to get you virtual pass printed.
- Pass is good for general admission only not for special events or exhibits.
- Passes cannot be used in conjunction with other group experiences (ticketed events, booked tours, field trips etc.)

Fontenelle Forest Passes
La Vista Public Library and Fontenelle Forest have partnered to provide park passes to library card holders. Each pass is good for one day. To borrow a park pass your library card must be active and in good standing.
This program is made possible by the generous donation of the Holland Foundation. THANK YOU!
Passes are available Monday-Sunday unless the park is closed. These dates will be blocked off on the online event pass website. Once the maximum number of passes for a day are checked out those days will also be blocked off.
Usage Frequency: You may borrow a pass once only every 30 days.
The Fontenelle Forest Pass...
- Is good for 2 adults and up to 5 children under 18
- Gives FREE admission to Fontenelle Forest and Neale Woods
- Gives FREE admission to the Raptor Woodland Refuge
- Gives 10% discount in the gift shop
- Provides member pricing for special programming (if purchased on-site the day of the special program and assuming there are still tickets available)
- A pass e-receipt will be used for entrance and discounts. If you do not have a smart phone you may visit the library to get you virtual pass printed.
- Only one pass per family is allowed at a time.

Lauritzen Gardens
La Vista Public Library and Lauritzen Gardens have partnered to provide visitation passes for library card holders. To borrow a pass your library card must be active and in good standing.
Passes may be ineligible on select days throughout the year for special events at the gardens. These dates will be blocked off on the calendar so you will not be able to reserve a free pass for that day.
Usage Frequency: You may borrow a Lauritzen Garden Pass once a year.
The Lauritzen Garden Pass...
- Admits 2 adults and children aged 17 and under that are in the household.
- Is only able to be used for daytime general admission (9 a.m. - 5 p.m.). Any after hours special evening programs are not included in this program.
- When visiting the person who borrowed the pass must be the one who presents it along with their La Vista Public Library card.
- You may show either the digital pass on your phone screen or print off the pass to have a paper copy to show. Both are accepted.

Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium Passes
The La Vista Public Library and Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium are partnering to provide zoo passes to any current card holders! Adults ages 18+ who are La Vista residents or have a non-resident paid membership to La Vista Public Library are eligible to check out a zoo pass.
Library accounts must be in good standing to be eligible for a pass (no outstanding fees). Zoo passes are given out on a first-come, first-serve basis with a limit of one per adult library card.
Due to the popularity and limited number of zoo passes, passes will not be held or reserved. Passes are available to borrow on the first day of their session.
Usage Frequency: Zoo passes are given out in two month sessions. You are limited to one ticket per session.

- December 1 - January 31
- February 1 - March 31
- April 1 - May 31
- No Passes June - September
- October 1 - November 30
The Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo Pass...
- Is good for up to two adults and six children.
- Must be presented along with your current La Vista Public Library Card.
- Is good for one-time use. Must be used during the session it was borrowed in.
- Passes become available on the first day of their session (i.e. fall passes become available October 1).
Board Games
Get ready to party! With games that is. The library has a diverse selection of board and card games you can borrow. If you don't want to clutter your closet look no further than the library! We have lots of games you might be looking to play. This is a great way to test out more expensive games before you commit to buying your own copy. We have everything from early education games for kids to elaborate strategy games for adults.
Want to recommend a board or card game to us? We'd love to hear about it! Getting rid of some games you don't play anymore? You can donate them to the library!
Cake Pans
The library started a cake pan collection during the summer of 2022 thanks to local Girl Scout Millie Belik. Millie worked with the library to create this collection as part of her Girl Scout Gold Award project. The collection now has a variety of fun shaped baking pans. From birthdays, to holidays, or just everyday occasions, there is sure to be a pan just right for you! These cake pans can be borrowed for two weeks at a time. We ask that you wash the pans before and after use.
Millie worked hard on compiling some of her favorite cake recipes from around the web to share with you in her own blog. Since then library staff have taken over the blog to add new posts each month. Thank you Millie for starting tis collection!

La Vista Flag
Are you traveling for the holidays or going on vacation soon? Check out a City of La Vista flag from the library and take it with you. Then, send a travel photo to La Vista City Hall of you and the flag and you’ll receive a free gift!
Flags are available at the library’s circulation desk and can be checked out for three weeks at a time. The library will use a map to track where the flags travel. There’s no place like home—or La Vista! Take a piece of home with you on your next trip and show off your La Vista pride.
Telescope Kit
A telescope kit is available for library card holders to borrow for two weeks at a time. The kit comes with a beginner telescope and some books to help you start identifying stars and celestial bodies. Remember! Don't look at the sun with the telescope!
Members must have their library card for a minimum of three months before they can borrow the telescope. Your library account must also be in good standing (no outstanding fees).
The Omaha Astrological Society helped the library start this program and continues to help keep the telescope in tune and ready to use. They also have a list of other libraries in Nebraska that have telescopes through their partnership.
Watt Detector Program
The La Vista Public Library has partnered with Omaha Public Power District to offer Watt Detector Kits, which are available for our patrons to borrow. With a Watt Detector, you can measure the amount of energy consumed by your appliances.
Studies show that people using electricity monitors will save between 5 and 20 percent on their utility bills by watching their energy use and making effective changes.
