For the next year and a half or so, traveling along 84th Street through La Vista will be messy, and quite frankly, inconvenient, as we construct a new bridge, underpass and trails along the corridor.
So, why is this massive project necessary?
If you’re new to the community, or if you’ve lived here for awhile, you should know about the City’s longtime vision for the 84th Street corridor.
We started with an overall vision, which we aptly called Vision 84.
From there we created a master plan for what once was La Vista Falls Golf Course, which is now Central Park.
We then embarked on some planning for the west side of 84th Street, which is now called Central Park West.
The vision for 84th Street has always anticipated a connection between the east and west sides of the corridor.
This east/west connection is important for the vitality of not only City Centre, The Astro and Central Park, but also Central Park West, where we will be constructing a new municipal swimming pool for our community.
Central Park West is also where we are planning more civic gathering places for community events and other recreational elements.
So, while the next year and a half or so will certainly be messy, the future is bright for the 84th Street corridor!
