Throughout the 84^th Street Trail Project, you can expect regular updates from us about what work is being done and what you can expect to see.

We hope these updates are helpful and informative, and if you would like us to address a certain topic, please let us know!

As the project kicks off, one of the first things you will see is the removal of trees along the corridor from Giles Road to Harrison Street.

These trees need to be removed to make room for the new 10-foot-wide trails that will run along both sides of 84^th Street. Future phases of our Streetscape Plan anticipate new trees along the corridor.

After the trees are removed, crews will remove the median between Park View Blvd. and City Centre Dr. and fill it in with concrete. This will make the lane closures possible. Once the concrete has cured in the median area, crews will set up the two-lane traffic, which we anticipate to be in place by the last week of November.

Crews will start the bridge work on the west side of 84^th Street, so the traffic restrictions will affect the southbound lanes. This first phase of bridge work is expected to last until summer 2026.

For the next year and a half or so, traveling along 84^th Street through La Vista will be messy, and quite frankly, inconvenient, as we build a new bridge, underpass and 10-foot-wide trails along the corridor.

So, why is this massive project necessary?

If you’re new to the community, or if you’ve lived here for awhile, you should know about the City’s longtime vision for the 84^th Street corridor.

We started with an overall vision, which we aptly called Vision 84.

From there we created a master plan for what once was La Vista Falls Golf Course, which is now Central Park.

We then did some planning for the west side of 84^th Street, which is now called Central Park West.

The vision for 84^th Street has always anticipated a connection between the east and west sides of the corridor.

This east/west connection is important for the future of not only City Centre, The Astro and Central Park, but also Central Park West, where we will be building a new municipal swimming pool for our community.

Central Park West is also where we are planning more civic gathering places for community events and other recreational elements.

So, while the next year and a half or so will certainly be messy, the future is bright for the 84^th Street corridor!

Local developer, City Ventures, has purchased the former Wal-Mart property and has begun to transform this area into a mixed use City Centre in the heart of La Vista. This 34-acre property will include amenities such as retail shopping, dining, living and office space that will cover approximately 300,000 square feet. The development will eventually include over 350 residential units with plans for an office building and possibly a hotel.

The La Vista Falls Golf Course has been transformed into Central Park, a new gathering place for La Vista residents to enjoy. The goal of Central Park is to create a new public space that will become a downtown destination for residents and visitors to the area.

Once known as the “Golden Mile”, 84th Street in La Vista is a shadow of its former self as a thriving commercial corridor. A once bustling street, 84^th Street turned into a means to get somewhere else in La Vista, rather than the destination it once was.

Dodgeball Tournament

Sunday, February 15, 2-4:30 p.m.

At La Vista Community Center

La Vista Recreation's coed 5v5 dodgeball tournament is a competition for those who like their sports with a little attitude. Gather your crew and test your skills at the legendary Five D's of Dodgeball! (Dodge. Duck. Dip. Dive. Dodge.)

All skill levels are welcome. Players must be 16 or older. Rosters can have 5-7 players and must include at least one female.

$25/per team (One person registers and pays for the team.)

Sign up at CityofLaVista.org/Dodgeball by February 8, and get ready to compete for a shiny trophy and major bragging rights.

Remember: If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball!

Travelin' Trivia Nights

Second Wednesday of the month, 6 p.m.

Travelin' Trivia is hitting the road and stopping at different La Vista hot spots throughout 2026. Form a team and test your wits playing trivia with La Vista City staff. Teams of up to six people are welcome, and top teams will win prizes. Trivia is free to play. A full range of beverages will be available for purchase.

The La Vista Recreation Department offers a youth flag football program for boys and girls in grades Pre-Kindergarten (4 yrs old minimum) through 6th grade. La Vista teams play in the Sarpy County Flag Football League. The league is dedicated to improving youth sports by teaching and developing skills, promoting maximum participation and providing a fair, safe environment.

Spring Season Information

Practice will tentatively begin the week of April 1, (weather permitting). Practices are held at the coach’s discretion during the week. All games will be played on Thursday evenings and/or Saturday mornings/afternoons at the La Vista Sports Complex, Papillion Landing, BJSA and/or Spirit Field in Papillion beginning on April 18 and ending on June 20.
